Africa-Press – Seychelles. Good news for tourists and southerners! On October 29, 2022, among the activities of the Creole Festival, the Seychelles National Heritage Resource Council (SNHRC) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism will launch the ‘Bazar Domaine’ at Domaine de Val des Pres in Au Cap.

Then, the ‘Bazar Domaine’ will take place every third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. “If we have a greater demand, we can consider doing it every fortnight,” announced Miss Benjamine Rose, executive director of the SNHRC during a press briefing yesterday at the Domaine de Val des Près.

She was accompanied by Ms. Sinha Levkovic, Director of Planning and Product Development in the Department of Tourism and Miss Norma Govinden, Director of Cultural Tourism in the Seychelles National Institute Of Culture Heritage and The Arts.

The objective of this ‘Bazaar’ is to offer a new and unique experience to our visitors. “The Domaine de Val des Près is a cultural and also preserved site and we want different craftsmen, musicians and artists to be able to come and sell and exhibit their products. We will also have traditional games such as ‘konos’, ‘lastik’ and ‘kannet’. We will also have traditional games such as ‘pillow war’, ‘poto la gres’ and other traditional games and activities such as ‘bros koko’, making ‘balye zig’, vacoas bags. Visitors will be charged a small fee to participate in some of these activities,” Ms. Rose said.

In an effort to develop cultural tourism, Ms. Govinden added that the Seychelles National Institute Of Culture Heritage and The Arts (SNICHA) mainly encourages projects that are unique and creative in order to give tourists a taste before they even come to Seychelles. .

“We work a lot on our online platforms and we work in collaboration with the tourism department, the DMCs and Parrapi Seychelles. Our role is to help educate our visitors about our culture, Creole dishes, our museum and more,” Ms. Govinden explained.

Ms. Levkovic shared how for the past few years her department has been working on products that can enhance our culture. “What is going to happen at Bazar Domaine is exactly one of the models we want to see in the community – participation of artisans and visitors. We are very optimistic, as our two departments are working closely together and we are very much counting on the participation of Seychellois,” Ms. Levkovic added.

Already the administration of the Domaine de Val des Près has a list of craftsmen to come and participate in these events and around thirty people will participate in this first Bazaar. Existing small shops will be open for the duration of the Bazaar. Unique products will be on sale and imported products are strongly discouraged.

At the end of each Bazaar, visitors will be treated to a moutya show.
