Africa-Press – Seychelles. Looking for a 1st Olympic medal for the Seychelles
Since several years, the relationship between the Seychelles and Normandy has developed harmoniously at the level of sport, particularly at the level of infrastructure and the capacity to host Normandy sportsmen where several local sportsmen have benefited from training, as well as from competitions in their preparations at different games and international competitions.
To commemorate this fruitful partnership, a forum under the theme ‘Rejoin ancestors and descendants through sport’ – 1st Olympic medal for the Seychelles – was organized to highlight its success and also to see the way forward to improve the existing partnership, all in the goal of winning the first Olympic medal for the Seychelles.
The forum that was held on Saturday at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel was hosted by the Honorary Consul of Normandy, Francis Herbet, who is on his 74th trip to the Seychelles.
They were present: the Minister of Youth, Sports and the Family Mme Marie-CeĢline Zialor, the Principal Secretary of Youth and Sports Ralph Jean-Louis, representatives of different federations and local sports associations, as well as some coaches.
Among the different topics discussed at the forum were the history of the Olympic Games, the great Norman sportsmen and clubs and their success at the national and international level, the infrastructure and capacity of welcoming Norman sportsmen, the project to welcome Seychellois sportsmen, the importance of school sports, sports studies and training for young Seychellois athletes, as well as the integration of clubs and competitions for young Seychellois athletes.
According to M. Herbet, the long-standing relationship is very healthy and has been very productive over the years, where many Seychellois athletes have benefited from quality and high-level training.
Such a partnership, he said, will continue, and other invitations will follow.
