Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘Celebrating the Seychellois Man’
To mark International Men’s Day, which was celebrated on November 19, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family organized a one-and-a-half-day forum under the theme ‘Celebrate Seychellois Men’ to honor the success and achievements of Seychellois men to advance their families and society. in general.
This activity, which took place at the Eden Bleu hotel, saw the participation of sixty men of all ages from all walks of life.
These men included young men from professional centers, workers in the public and private sectors, among other organizations, as well as men who have stopped working, from Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.
Also present is the Minister of Design, Jean-François Ferrari; other ministers; leader of government affairs in the National Assembly, Honorable Bernard Georges; the principal secretary among other guests.
This forum was in the form of a discussion where the audience got to interact and learn about the lives and accomplishments of four characters: Ambassador for Culture Patrick Victor; Pastor Jude Fred; entrepreneurs Jean-Michel Vidot and Marc Arissol, who are in charge of Mont Fleuri secondary school.
When speaking about the reason for this forum, the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie Celine Zialor, explained that her ministry organized this forum because men in general in Seychelles rarely get publicity when they do things that good and positive apart from the fact that critics are linked to social problems with them being amplified by advertisements every day.
He added that because his ministry celebrated women’s day in March this year, it is also normal that they also give the same compliment to men who are contributing to society and those who have contributed for a number of years, just to give a fair balance between the two ‘gender’.
“There is a large group of men in our community in Seychelles and in the world as well, where there are good things that they do,” Minister Zialor said.
He pointed out that if the country is standing up and succeeding today, it has not only come through the contribution of women but also through the good and positive contributions that men have brought as well.
He said that they want this to be a successful celebration, they want to bring men who are doing and who have made good contributions to their families and society, in this forum, which motivates those who are doing negativity to take an example and without their behavior. He added that a celebration is a celebration and that when you do it you do not bring negative and sad things apart from the good things.
Minister Zialor made it clear that we need to inculcate the culture of recognizing people who have done good deeds in society early and not waiting for a funeral to do so.
He says that this will help encourage men who are doing well to continue working side by side with their wives to help transform our society.
This forum started with the song of the glory of health by Ziggy Adam, followed by a reflection by Pastor Jude Fred from the ‘Everlasting Love Ministry’. After the opening speech by Minister Zialor, Lester Augustin, a teacher at Plaisance primary school, recited his poem entitled ‘Man’, which he had written for the occasion.
During this ceremony, singer and composer John Wirtz was honored for his achievements in music where many of his songs have helped raise morale in the country. He also presented the audience with one of his popular compositions ‘Lavi’, which was well appreciated.
A participant, Versange Verlaque, a security officer with the Seychelles Foundation (SIF) at Vallée De Mai on Praslin, said that he appreciated the event where he was able to join this great group of men who share their successes and challenges.
He said that the only way to have positivity in the country is to have respect and sharing between us.
On his side, Captain Simon Laurencine, from the home guard, said that he appreciates this development as well, but the time is not enough for the number of points that the participants will want to cough and learn from others to make a change in their lives.
Minister Zialor later said that they are planning to repeat this forum because of the number of people that they got to participate but that the space was limited.
