Africa-Press – Seychelles. Within the framework of bilateral Franco-Seychelles cooperation and the strengthening of regional dynamics around security issues, the command of the gendarmerie of La Réunion, with the support of the DCSD, welcomes, from January 29 to February 12, 2023, 16 police officers Seychelles for a training course.

This is the first translation on the ground of the protocol of technical and operational cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and terrorism signed on October 5, 2022 between the chief of the Seychelles police, commissioner Ted Barbe and the commandant of the gendarmerie of La Réunion, the general of brigade Pierre Poty.

Thus, during these two weeks, the Antenne du GIGN de La Réunion will form the first intervention unit within the Seychelles Police Force. This will be engaged only in sensitive situations, or in support of police stations, especially for the control of armed or unarmed opponents.

This course is the first part of training where professional intervention techniques will be taught, through theoretical and practical modules (vehicle control, perimeter security, home investigation, shooting sessions, etc.).

This Monday, January 30, after a ceremony of raising the colors of the two countries, Brigadier General Pierre Poty officially opened the course. He welcomed the trainees and said he was proud to welcome the first foreign policemen since the end of the health crisis, making it possible to take a significant step on the road to regional cooperation.
