Africa-Press – Seychelles. President Ramkalawan encourages children to concentrate on their studies
The children and teachers of the Bel Eau school had a special children’s party this year with the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, as guest of honor!

“My anvi ki zot aprann, aprann e aprann,” said President Ramkalawan addressing the students at the school. “On this occasion we think of all the moms, dads and educators who teach and protect children. We adults want to protect you and we want your parents to protect you too. You are our future and who knows who will become minister or president one day? You must dedicate yourself to your studies and love your little comrade…”

President Ramkalawan took the opportunity to sing the song ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars’ with the children and shared, “I will make you ‘stars’ and guide other children on the right path”.

The president also shared that his mom was the teacher of this school for a few years.

The Minister of Education Dr. Justin Valentin was very emotional during this holiday and asked for a few seconds of silence in memory of Mrs. Geva René who had instituted the National Children’s Day. Instead of a speech, Minister Valentin recited two of his poems that he had composed.

“Hearing you recite the poems with me, I encourage you to give your creativity a chance and that the teachers encourage the students to write too,” added the minister.

For this day, school teacher Jane Laurette encouraged the population to celebrate the innocence and purity of children. “Our children are precious and we must protect, respect and love them. Parents, educators, policy makers, government officials and citizens have a duty to create better conditions for them. No child is born bad, but his environment and the way he is brought up will define his character and the person he wants to become. As children, they are empty vessels and we, as adults, fill them! So we have to be very aware of this responsibility”.

On the program, there were prayers, songs by children and teachers, recitation of poems, dances etc.

After the official program, the president and his delegation visited two specific places of the school and he approved for a play area to be enlarged and another space to be fitted out.

The member of the National Assembly Norbert Loizeau, the district administrator of Bel Air Christophe Madeleine, the principal secretary of the Ministry of Education as well as the members of the parents’ association also participated in this celebration.

British High Commissioner Patrick Lynch and his wife were among the guests.
