Africa-Press – Seychelles. In a display of unity and compassion, the evening of July 1, 2023, witnessed the remarkable fundraising gala hosted by Liam’s Rainbow Foundation at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Eden Island.
The foundation, a non-profit organisation, is devoted to providing support to children living with terminal or debilitating illnesses, with its current project focused on constructing a playhouse on the hospital premises. With distinguished guests, community leaders, and esteemed personalities in attendance, the gala proved to be an unforgettable night, heralding the collective commitment to making a difference in the lives of these young warriors.
Liam’s Rainbow Foundation was born out of love and remembrance for Liam Rangasamy, a brave 7-year-old boy who fought against DIPG – a rare, aggressive brain stem tumour. In honour of Liam’s legacy, his mother, Erica Rangasamy, founded the organisation, rallying people from all walks of life to join the cause.
The night began with an air of elegance as President Wavel Ramkalawan and his wife, Linda Ramkalawan, the patron of the foundation, graced the occasion. Vice-President Ahmed Afif, alongside his wife, Stella Afif, the vice-chairperson of the foundation, and Minister Billy Rangasamy, accompanied by his wife, added their esteemed presence, reinforcing the significance of the gala.
The focal point of the evening was the ambitious project of constructing a playhouse on the hospital premises. This playhouse aims to be a sanctuary for children undergoing treatment, providing them with a haven to play, learn, and heal. The foundation’s dedication to this noble cause was evident in every aspect of the gala.
The event’s activities included a keynote address by Marie Antoinette Chow – International Speaker and Master Facilitator, a thrilling raffle, with the star prize being a luxurious three-night stay at the esteemed Raffles Dubai. Adding to the excitement, an auction was held, featuring an enchanting painting by artistic director and local artist John Etienne. The painting fetched an impressive R160,000, with 40% of the proceeds generously donated to the foundation. The auction also featured a sunset cruise on Anahita, generously donated by Mason’s Travel, as well as a captivating painting by author Jane Stravens.
The evening further resonated with the power of music and art as special performances by Dr Xavier Rose, Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Erica Rangasamy and guest artist Patrick Victor uplifted spirits and brought smiles to the faces of attendees. The performances underscored the foundation’s belief in the healing power of creative expression, a belief that was mirrored in the creative décor done by Brian Larue.
The gala concluded on a joyful note with a lively disco, symbolising the collective celebration of the community’s contributions and the foundation’s achievements.
Liam’s Rainbow Foundation expressed heartfelt gratitude to the companies and individuals who have supported the organisation since its inception. Their unwavering generosity has made a significant impact on the lives of countless children and their families, providing hope and strength during their most challenging times.
As the night drew to a close, the gala became more than just an event – it symbolised a community united by compassion, resilience, and a shared commitment to providing a better future for children battling terminal illnesses. The success of the gala brings Liam’s Rainbow Foundation one step closer to fulfilling its vision of a playhouse – a symbol of hope and healing – for the children who need it the most.
