Africa-Press – Seychelles. Grand and colorful show
It was in front of a crowd of more than 100,000 people that the opening of the IX Games of La Francophonie took place last Friday at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa Congo.
Among the guests at the Stade des Martyrs for the kick off of the IX Games of La Francophonie, which the Congolese want to see as a message of hope in a sea of problems, were the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, the President of Togo Faure Gnassingbé and the Prime Ministers of Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Congo-Brazzaville. France was represented by the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.
The Seychelles were represented by Mrs. Miera Savy, the secretary general of the National Commission of La Francophonie, responsible for the national dossier of la Francophonie and vice-president of the orientation council of the international committee of the Games of La Francophonie; the head of delegation Alain Alcindor and Begitta Jeannevol representative of the government; and Galen Bresson, responsible for the cultural section.
It was the athlete Dylan Sicobo who was our flag bearer and 30 other athletes, participants followed him during the traditional parade.During the opening ceremony, we were able to hear several speakers and they wanted to magnify the ties that unite French-speaking countries.
President Tshidekedi recalled that these Francophonie Games are a strong symbol of the DRC’s attachment to the values and objectives of La Francophonie, as well as the affirmation of its belonging to the French-speaking family and “the solidarity of Francophones with the Congolese, victims of an unjust attack”, in the east of their country.
Victims also “of the massive looting of our natural resources by armed groups and terrorists of all persuasions, with the support of certain neighboring countries”, he added.
“Our country has the ambition to continue to play a significant role there as the second French-speaking country after France in number of speakers and the largest by 2050. As such, the future of the Francophonie is also played out in the DRC. This is why, aware of our responsibilities within La Francophonie and determined to fully assume them, our people and their leaders have made enormous sacrifices to organize these games in a difficult financial situation, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. and the security crisis in the East”, recalled the Congolese Head of State.Certainly, the Congolese State has taken up a huge challenge by organizing these Games and hats off to this team. According to information, the infrastructure built was financed by the Congolese government.
The government presents the cost of the games as an investment for the future of the country and its youth, who will, for example, be able to benefit from brand new gymnasiums. Same thing for the ambulances which will then go to health structures or for the training that police officers have received for crowd management.
It was a grandiose spectacle that took place after the speeches with a colorful performance under the theme of the country’s natural wealth, Congolese youth and of course the essential sappers. The highlight of the show will be the appearance of superstar Fally Ipupa who ignited the spectators with his two hits: “May day” and “Bloqué”.
Between the athletes, it was camaraderie that began to take place.
Hats off to RDC for taking up such a challenge!
