Africa-Press – Seychelles. A group of staff from the Seychelles Prison Service were at Foyer de Nazareth on Saturday for volunteer work and to spend time with the children as part of ongoing activities for Prison Service Day, which started the previous day.

During the day they prepared a meal and shared a cake with the children, had some fun time on a bouncing castle as well as cleaned up the playground.

Following the activity held under the theme ‘We Engage’, the Commissioner of Prisons, Raymond St Ange, said they have resolved to step up and help out ‘Foyer de Nazareth’.

“There is hope for these kids. I appreciated very much how they said thank you, the sparkle in their eyes, how they came to help, and how they shared with one another,” said Mr St Ange, adding that trauma could be lifelong and a number of those younger adults who end up behind bars were traumatised in one way or another.

“We note some inmates were former wards of the Youth Residential Treatment Centre at that time. It is clear that we as communities need to step up more and more. So thank you again to the team for being there and to PENLAC for the paint and STC for the burger patties. We engage!” he stated.

The Seychelles Prison Service was commemorating Prison Service Day for the third consecutive year.

On Friday, it held a certificate ceremony to recognise its staff and welcome its new recruits. The event is observed on September 8, which is the feast day of St Adrian, the patron saint of prisons.
