Africa-Press – Seychelles. Ms. Peggy Vidot, Minister of Health of Seychelles, leads a delegation of four senior officials from the Ministries of Health and Agriculture to a ministerial conference on health security in the Indian Ocean.
Mr Keven Nancy, Principal Secretary of Agriculture, Dr Jude Gedeon, Commissioner of Public Health and Dr Jimmy Melanie, Principal Veterinary Officer, make up the delegation.
The Epidemiological Surveillance and Alert Management network, SEGA – One Health, the armed arm of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in human, animal and environmental health, is at the origin of this conference.
In order to prepare concrete options for the future interventions of the Health Monitoring Unit (UVS) in the area, a regional workshop on the health climate took place on the sidelines of this conference.
Minister Vidot declared during her speech that “the ‘one health’ approach that all our countries now advocate calls for new collaboration, both within and outside our borders. For Seychelles, this approach requires a significant improvement to their technical platform. »
Seychelles has already drafted a memorandum of understanding between human, animal and environmental health officials. “When international solidarity is lacking, cooperation between the islands of the Indian Ocean remains a sure insurance policy on which we can really count,” she continued.
The achievements of the SEGA – One Health network were presented during the conference, which also served to strengthen ties and collaboration between network members.
The ministers also discussed the sustainability of the SEGA – One Health Network, in particular the definition of the mechanisms and statutes of the SEGA fund.
Finally, the priorities of regional health policy were established and the ministers of health and agriculture signed a Declaration formalizing the sustainability of the SEGA-One Health network.
