Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Ambassador of the Union of Comoros to the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Mohamed Caabi Elyachroutu, paid this Tuesday, October 31, a courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde , at Maison Quéau in Quinssy, to discuss areas of cooperation of interest to the two countries.

Areas identified for collaboration include tourism and the blue economy, which are key sectors for both countries.

Ambassador Elyachroutu considered that although his country did not have many hotels, Seychelles remained a source of inspiration for the Union of the Comoros, particularly in the way in which it could develop hotel establishments in perfect harmony with the environment.

In this regard, Minister Radegonde indicated that in view of the excellent relations that exist between the two countries, Seychelles was “ready to share its experience with the Comoros through exchange programs for students who would come to study the ‘hospitality and/or go on study trips, or even provide advice when needed.’

The two diplomats considered that electricity and the maintenance of equipment and infrastructure necessary for its production was another important area. Renewable energies were thus identified as an area in which the two countries could collaborate. In this context, the existence of a Turkish company was mentioned which has a boat that can produce electricity and whose adoption does not require any particular infrastructure. This is a technology that both countries could study as well.

Regarding trade, Ambassador Elyachroutu explained that although Comoros exports vanilla and cloves, the issue of connectivity in the region remains a real challenge. The diplomats thus estimated that the introduction of a maritime connection would contribute to bringing the two countries closer together, as is included in the development program of the Indian Ocean Commission.

It was also noted that Comoros does not have a national airline, making it difficult to attract visitors. However, Minister Radegonde recalled that although it does not have a national airline, the Maldives have developed a very good strategy to attract visitors. A strategy from which the Comoros could study or draw inspiration.

The meeting ended with the desire of both parties to work together to strengthen relations between the two countries for the well-being of their respective people.
