Africa-Press – Seychelles. The department of Employment yesterday received information that a company involved in the December 7, 2023 explosion has terminated the employment of a number of its non-Seychellois workers and was attempting to repatriate them back to their country on Sunday without undertaking the redundancy procedure as required under the Employment Act.
The department acted immediately and has instructed that the workers will not depart the country until the company follows the procedure and the workers are paid what is due to them.
The department would like to remind employers who were affected by the explosion and all others who find themselves in a situation whereby they have to terminate the employment of their workers, other than for serious disciplinary offence, that they are required to follow the relevant procedures under the Employment Act.
If unsure, the department may be contacted during working hours on 429 72 00 or through our Hotline on 280 40 41 for guidance.
