Africa-Press – Seychelles. The British High Commission will take part in election day observation at the invitation of the Electoral Commission of Seychelles.
Teams from the British High Commission (BHC), including the High Commissioner, will be deployed, along with other accredited missions across Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue to observe voting and counting procedures.
This initiative reflects the UK’s longstanding efforts to promote free, fair, and transparent elections. It also highlights our joint commitment to the principle of one person, one vote, the secrecy of the ballot, and the belief that every citizen should have an equal voice in shaping their government.
British High Commissioner, Jeff Glekin, said:“I am happy that we, and other international partners are supporting Seychelles in this important moment. It is an opportunity to stand alongside Seychellois institutions in upholding democracy.”
“For many years we have worked to increase the opportunity for citizens to participate in a vibrant and open system. For example, our work to support the National Youth Assembly to transition to an elected chamber that mirror the National Assembly. This gave the next generation of Seychellois a chance to experience the democratic process and hopefully, one day become leaders of your country, in their own right,” added Mr Glekin.
“I commend the Electoral Commission for its preparations and welcome the opportunity to contribute. I hope we see a vibrant and peaceful celebration of democracy that reflects the high standards we have witnessed in recent years,” he stated in conclusion.
