Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘Let us celebrate fathers as an equal part of the heart that keeps Seychellois families together’

On the occasion of International Fathers’ Day this year, the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie Celine Zialor, is calling on the Seychellois society to recognise and celebrate men who are taking their responsibility as fathers seriously, playing active and positive roles in their children’s lives.

The call comes in a message from the minister on the occasion of International Father’s Day celebrated yesterday, June 19.

The following is the full text of Minister Zialor’s message:

“We salute fathers who are not only supporting their own families: emotionally, mentally, or financially but others who are contributing to the society at large. Men, who are father figures too, and are playing vital roles in the lives of adoptive children, must also be commended and praised.

“In line with our family theme, ‘Mon Fanmir, Mon Leker – My Family, My Heart” the Seychellois society must emphasise the roles that fathers play in the family, and that fathers not just mothers should have their families very close to their hearts, irrespective of whether fathers are still together or separated from their children’s mother.

“The theme ‘My Family, My Heart’, highlights the family as an important unit in the community. Let us celebrate fathers as an equal part of the heart that keeps Seychellois families together. There is a need to spread this message across our society for better, stronger families.

“Though today presents us with an opportunity to celebrate and commend fathers around the world, in Seychelles, let us focus on fathers who are discouraged, who are feeling left out or unfavoured by the system. Let us reach out and give them support; as ministries, agencies and other institutions let us find ways to assist those fathers to better assume and discharge their responsibilities.

“For the role model fathers out there, we call on you to also reach out to struggling fathers, support and guide them, so that they too can better themselves and can contribute to their families living happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.”
