Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>TiS recognises government\u2019s policy of zero tolerance to corruption<\/b>
\n\u201cToday (July 11), the African continent commemorates Africa Anti-Corruption Day.<\/p>\n

July 11 was earmarked seven years ago as the date which African Union member states would come together to collectively remind the continent on its stance on corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cA statement has been released by Transparency International to all African Union leaders \u2013 it is enclosed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn view of this year\u2019s theme and focus on the management of Covid-19 Funds, Transparency Initiative Seychelles would like to make the following statement;<\/p>\n

\u201cTransparency Initiative Seychelles (TiS):<\/p>\n

1. Welcomes the audit report of the Auditor General on FA4JR scheme which was put in place to tackle the economic downturn brought forth by the Covid pandemic;<\/p>\n

2. Calls on the government to take the necessary steps to recover any funds which have been misappropriated or fraudulently claimed under the FA4JR scheme;<\/p>\n

3. Encourages for the audit of the Covid-19 funds by the government so as to reassure the general public and donors that there were no misappropriation or fraudulent use of funds;<\/p>\n

4. Reiterates our proposal to the government to consider a standalone whistleblower legislation;<\/p>\n

5. Encourages the government to continue its effort to establish and consolidate a system for merit based public service.<\/p>\n

6. Calls on the government to consider measures to tackle misinformation and disinformation;<\/p>\n

7. Recognises the stance of the government on a policy of zero tolerance to corruption and its effort to improve on legislative framework to address corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n
