Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>A group of individuals with hearing difficulties have been introduced to the eight dimensions of a balanced life during a session carried out by UN Youth Seychelles under its \u2018Silver Lining Project 2021\u2019.<\/p>\n

The half-day session took place recently and it included a series of different presentations. The first was by Wellington Manjengwa, a risk analyst who started off with a short video that expressed how a person\u2019s surroundings could affect their personal harmony and prosperity.<\/p>\n

He stressed on the importance of taking care of our body and mind to maximise our full potential. He gave a detailed explanation on risk-taking and venturing out into the unknown in order to discover our true abilities and talents. With this in mind, Mr Manjengwa continued his presentation discussing all the eight dimensions and relating them directly to the audience, and how they could be applied to improve their daily lives and make strategic decisions.<\/p>\n

He urged them to build on their emotional intelligence, spiritual and self-awareness as well as encouraging them to budget, while still prioritising physical activity and caring for the environment around them. He also emphasised the power of the mind using the example of technological innovations, to show that human beings, no matter what circumstance, are still capable of great developments.<\/p>\n

After a short break, Jimmy Petrousse, a qualified psychotherapist, resumed the presentation and deepened the audience\u2019s knowledge on emotional and mental health.<\/p>\n

His presentation highlighted the importance of a secure upbringing with supportive and present parents and discussed how generational trauma could impact on children as they grow up and become parents themselves.<\/p>\n

He described a wide range of mental illnesses from anxiety up to even depression and explained their root causes and effects.<\/p>\n

He motivated the participants and assured them that despite their being hearing-impaired they still have a voice and many skills.<\/p>\n

The workshop was a great success and UN Youth Seychelles looks forward to future collaborations with the hearing-impaired community.<\/p>\n

The group said they are happy to have been given the chance to inspire and empower this group of remarkable individuals.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the session all the participants were given certificates for their engagement in this activity. However, two of them were rewarded for their dedication in the workshop. Calvin Morel received the Best Participation award for his great interest in the matters discussed and Shana David earned the Inspiring Participant award which demonstrated how this workshop has impacted her.<\/p>\n

Special thanks went to the enablers of the session, namely; Anita Gardener, the chairperson of the association for people with hearing impairment; the presenters: Wellington Manjengwa and Jimmy Petrousse and the organisers and members of the UN Youth Seychelles. A special thank you went to the National Grants Committee for funding the projects.<\/p>\n
