Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Eleven helpline responders from the non-governmental organisation and a group of volunteers attended training on \u2018The Anatomy of Domestic Violence\u2019 hosted by the Women in Action Solidarity Organisation (Waso) in partnership with the Family department.<\/b><\/p>\n

The main objective of the training was to equip the responders with the knowledge and best practices of telephone and online counselling.<\/p>\n

The topics discussed allowed participants to understand and address physical and emotional abuse, power and control, intimate partner violence, personality traits and emotional states of abuse, and the different types of personality disorders. The participants also went over the referral procedures in place and follow-up actions when handling a client.<\/p>\n

During an interview, Waso programme manager, Rosemary Elizabeth, called on members of the public going through abuse or who are witnessing abuse to reach out to the organisation via its helpline 2530707.<\/p>\n

\u201cGlobally, statistics have shown that violence especially between partners is on the rise. Since relaunching the Waso Helpline in March of this year, we’re recording at least three calls each month which we believe the matter, in general, is underreported,\u201d Ms Elizabeth said.<\/p>\n

She added that with these training and side promotions, Waso and partners want to remind the public that their phone and online services are still available and reassure them that the responders are well equipped to navigate these difficult situations.<\/p>\n

The training was facilitated by Jimmy Petrousse, a psychotherapist at the Quality of Life Division (QLD) in the Family department.<\/p>\n
