Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Representatives from youth-led non-governmental organisations and groups learned more about \u2018Let\u2019s Pocket\u2019, a financial educational programme, yesterday at the SNYC training room.
\n<\/b>
\nThis workshop falls under the Youth Festival calendar of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC).<\/p>\n

Students from the Seychelles Business Studies Academy, the youth-led NGOs, students from post-secondary and the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals) were the main groups targeted by SNYC this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur facilitator, the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS), is our partner in this educational activity and this is the third time we are conducting such programme. It is very important for us as SNYC to help the upcoming leaders of the society to learn and know more about financial responsibility as in one of our meetings with the youth, they did tell us they are not able to manage their allowances etc,\u201d explained Hazel Songor, project coordinator at SNYC.<\/p>\n

Rose Larue, Financial Inclusion Analyst at the CBS, shared that these workshops are very important for the youth. Together with her colleagues Adolph Nourice and Jonathan Valentin, they focused on the topic \u2018Personal Financial Management\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the CBS, this activity is in line with our national strategy on financial education. It was launched in 2017 and CBS as the financial education secretariat organises and participates every year in educational topics. We are also invited by different groups to talk about the subject they need to learn about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Larue said that more than ever, now we all need financial education as the economy is being impacted by increase in prices etc. \u201cIt is important to know how to manage our finance and many do not know where to start. It is true that the current situation might be difficult, but if we know how to manage our budget, we can be out of trouble and plan for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is no age to learn about budgeting. Even a child should know about the expenses and how to help the family live within the budget. The parents have to educate their children as many daily actions have an impact on the monthly budget of the family.<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by some 30 people.<\/p>\n
