Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) is offering a training course for Seychelles\u2019 journalists on October 12, 13 and 14, 2022 in Seychelles aiming at building their capacity to cover parliament and democratic institutions.<\/b><\/p>\n

The call for applications is open until September 25, 2022.<\/p>\n

Following the call for applications, up to 15 journalists (print, radio, TV, online media) will be selected to attend the training.<\/p>\n

The selection criteria include: the journalist’s demonstrated interest in covering democratic institutions, his or her commitment to attending the entire training and to produce content related to the training for quality follow-up, as well as the authorisation of his or her media organisation.<\/p>\n

According to the IOC, the objectives of this training are to: (a) Improve the understanding of the functioning of democratic institutions and the journalistic coverage of their activities; (b) Facilitate the development of a working relationship between the media and democratic institutions to improve the quality of information to the public; (c) Professionalise the journalistic coverage of democratic institutions and (d) Enhance the internal skills of democratic institutions through training for journalists.<\/p>\n

This training of journalists on parliamentary and democratic institutions coverage is part of a series of training offered by the IOC to media professionals from IOC member states through the IOC\u2019s Governance, Peace, and Stability Project funded by the Agence fran\u00e7aise de d\u00e9veloppement.<\/p>\n

About the Governance, Peace, and Stability Project in Indian Ocean<\/b><\/p>\n

The IOC’s first project on governance and diplomatic cooperation issues, the IOC’s GPS project aims to address the needs of crisis prevention and the promotion of peace and stability in the region through four components: (i) crisis prevention and mediation, (ii) implementation of credible, transparent, peaceful and inclusive electoral processes, (iii) promotion of good governance, through institutional capacity building and citizens\u2019 involvement in political and public life with a special focus on youth and women, and (iv) capacity building of the IOC, particularly in its role in the area of peace, stability, governance and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

GPS is a five-year project funded by the Agence fran\u00e7aise de d\u00e9veloppement (AFD) to tune of 8 million euros over 54 months.<\/p>\n
