Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Mrs Labiche on the day she celebrated her 100th birthday<\/b><\/p>\n

Baie Lazare resident Angele Madeleine Labiche, nee Dogley, is the newest addition to the country\u2019s list of centenarians after celebrating her 100th birthday yesterday.<\/p>\n

She is the district\u2019s only resident to hit the century mark.<\/p>\n

Born on January 18, 1922, Mrs Labiche discreetly celebrated her birthday, observing all health protocols in the presence of close family members, including her daughter and grandchildren who made a trip from the United Kingdom for the event.<\/p>\n

The special occasion began with a religious service led by Father Jacques, before principal secretary for Local Government and Community Affairs Kevin Perrine handed her a hamper on behalf of President Wavel Ramkalawan.<\/p>\n

Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Baie Lazare, Fran\u00e7ois Adelaide, also presented Mrs Labiche with a gift on behalf of the district\u2019s community.<\/p>\n

Tantin Baba, as she is most affectionately known, gave birth to two daughters, one of which has unfortunately passed away.<\/p>\n

A fervent Christian from an early age, Tantin Baba has been described by her family members as a \u2018God-Fearing\u2019 person who dedicated her entire life to the service of the Lord.<\/p>\n

They said she is a lady of prayer who attended all the pastoral feasts held in all the districts during her younger days.<\/p>\n

She also had regular confessions, and according to her family members, this she said was for Grace of the Lord.<\/p>\n

Tantin Baba was also a member of various prayers group, attending night sessions on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

Her strong faith and devotion towards her spirituality has been the main driving force behind her longevity, her family said.<\/p>\n

According to her grandson, well-known singer and musician Clement Dogley, who grew up with her, Tantin Baba has inculcated in him a strong sense of spirituality which led him to adopt a fair sense of responsibility and discipline in life.<\/p>\n

He added that his grandmother has been very influential and also supportive in his musical career, especially at the beginning, when he and Jean-Marc Volcy were allowed to rehearse until late at her house.<\/p>\n

Not really able to do much these days, Tantin Baba lives with her adopted daughter (niece) Raymonde Dogley who takes over after her day-time carer.<\/p>\n

Despite not being able to move around, she can eat and drink on her own.<\/p>\n
