Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Teachers from public and private schools in the country have received a set of notebooks from the Ministry of Education, as a small token of appreciation for their hard work.<\/b><\/p>\n

Representatives from several schools received the donation during a short ceremony at the Mont Fleuri secondary school last week in the presence of Education Minister Justin Valentin, principal secretaries Merna Eulentin and John Lesperance and other top ministerial officials, as well as heads of school and teachers.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, the director general for Institutional Support Services, Bernard Arnephy, said they wanted to say thank you with a simple token to coincide with Teacher\u2019s Week, which this year took place over two weeks.<\/p>\n

Around two thousand teachers will be receiving a notebook each with contains inspirational quotes about the profession.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just want to say thank you, show our appreciation and encourage them because we are grateful to them and what they do for the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Elodie Vallantine, who is the principal of the International School Seychelles (ISS), accepted the token from Minister Valentin on behalf of her school and said that as a private school, she was grateful to the minister for including ISS in all the Teachers\u2019 Week celebrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe feel it is important as a school to be part of the school network in Seychelles because we all educate children from Seychelles. It\u2019s not about private schools and state schools but about children of the country and giving them the best chance of education in Seychelles,\u201d said Mrs Vallantine.<\/p>\n

For his part, subject leader of the Beau Vallon primary school, Daniel Bristol, thanked the ministry for the gesture saying it shows that the ministry is showing its appreciation as well as future commitment towards them.<\/p>\n

Sir Bristol, who has been teaching for twenty-four years, also thanked the ministry for organising Teachers\u2019 Week, which has now increased to two weeks, encouraging to teachers.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore and more the ministry is becoming supportive, and this gesture is not only encouraging to us but to potential teachers out there, those who are considering a career in this field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The notebooks will be distributed to all other schools. The other schools represented during the ceremony last week included Anse Royale secondary, Plaisance primary and secondary, and Mont Fleuri primary and secondary.<\/p>\n
