Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The Commissioner of Prisons, Raymond St Ange, has congratulated Lindy Nancy, senior probation officer with the Seychelles Prison Service, following her completion of her online degree from Arden University, in the United Kingdom.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important that we keep on pressing and moving the prison service forward. Our aim is to have the premier correctional service in the region and one way to achieve this is to encourage our staff, no matter the area they are working in, to improve themselves at every level,\u201d said the commissioner.<\/p>\n

The online course was possible through the Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) that promotes human resource development in Seychelles to improve national skills and create a framework for the development of human capital. This according to their website, <\/b>www.anhrd.gov.sc. <\/b><\/p>\n

Lindy Nancy, who is 38 years of age, has been working as a probation officer for the past 18 years, after graduating with a diploma in social work.<\/p>\n

Ms Nancy said: \u201cI was promoted to the post of senior probation officer in December of last year and my duties involves working with offenders both young and adults, those convicted to imprisonment as well as those faced with alternative sentence. Appreciating the challenges and opportunities, I decided to enhance myself in this career path and decided to pursue further studies whereby I followed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Criminology and Law (online course) with Arden University. I started my studies on December 20, 2017 and completed on July 8, 2022. The qualification achieved upon completion of my studies is that of Bachelor of Arts with honours (upper second class) in Criminology and Law\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the senior probation officer, she is aiming to contribute more so that the level of service improves.<\/p>\n

Currently there are a number of staff with the probation unit who are as well working on their degrees.<\/p>\n

The prison service is currently aiming to have more staff engage themselves in fields of study at all levels and various subject matters.<\/p>\n

Elsa Nourrice, who as well has responsibility for psychosocial services and rehabilitation at the Seychelles Prison Service heads the Probation Services.<\/p>\n
