Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Young Seychellois tennis player Jahill Mathiot is to take part in a training camp of the first selection of Team Africa tennis programme.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mathiot, 11, is to leave the country today for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where he will join other young tennis hopefuls in the training camp from October 28 to November 1 at the Sofitel Ho\u0302tel Ivoire sports complex.<\/p>\n

Initiated by Sam Aliassime of the Aliassime Academy based in Canada, the training is organised in partnership with the Ivorian Tennis Federation with the aim of detecting talented players and training them to become world class players.<\/p>\n

Mathiot\u2019s airfares and stay in Abidjan is fully sponsored by the organising committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cReached by phone, Mathiot told Sports NATION that he is proud to have been selected for the training camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a very good opportunity and I am looking forward to take part. I will train hard,\u201d said the Plaisance primary six student.<\/p>\n

Mathiot has been playing since he was primary one and his wish is to become a professional player.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favourite player is Novak Djokovic and I watch him play to learn some techniques. But I also love watching Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer,\u201d added Mathiot who is coached by former Seychelles international player Steven Rideau-Mein.<\/p>\n

Tennis coach Sam Aliassime is the father of Canadian ATP Tour star Felix Auger-Aliassime whom he coached until the age of 12.<\/p>\n

Born in Togo before immigrating to Canada, Sam Aliassime was awarded the title of coach of the year 2019 by Tennis Canada.<\/p>\n

He is the owner of the Aliassime Academy in Quebec City, where his son Felix has been and where many promising players train. He teaches them discipline, perseverance, and hard work while allowing them to develop.<\/p>\n

Sam Aliassime\u2019s son Felix Aliassime is the second-youngest player ranked in the top 10 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and has a career-high singles ranking of No. 8, which he achieved on August 21, 2022. He has won three singles titles and one doubles title on the ATP Tour.<\/p>\n
