\u201cAs we start our yearly campaign of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence as is customary every year on November 25, we are reminded once again of the plague that taunts our families and society. Every year, the campaign focuses on a specific theme. This year\u2019s theme is \u2018UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Youth and Sports and Family would like to take the opportunity to reaffirm the government\u2019s and the country\u2019s firm stance against gender violence; any kind of violence \u2013 men and boys against women and girls, vice versa, women against women, and also men against men. Under this year\u2019s theme, we need to unite our efforts so that we can harmonise the collection of information for better decision-making. We need to unite our efforts in eliminating silos and territorial attitudes among all stakeholders. We need to unite our efforts in doing more research to find the root causes of violence in our society so that we can recommend better solutions. We need to unite our efforts in promoting peace and harmony in our country, to propagate more love, tolerance and understanding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to unite our efforts to equip our boys and girls, men and women with skills to learn to understand each other better so that we can live better together. And most importantly, we need to unite in walking the talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery one of us has a role to play in eliminating gender-based violence and domestic violence, yet we often consider it somebody else\u2019s problem. During this 16 Days Campaign and beyond let us as individuals or as groups be a part of the solution. Let us not be passive bystanders. Let us join in the efforts already being done, let us initiate new projects and programmes to give Seychelles an overdose of positivity so that we can considerably decrease the cases of violence in our society. We need safer homes, safer communities and a safer society, for you, for me, for our families and especially for our children.<\/p>\n
