{"id":20228,"date":"2022-12-06T14:38:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T14:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/world-soil-day-2022"},"modified":"2022-12-06T14:38:01","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T14:38:01","slug":"world-soil-day-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/world-soil-day-2022","title":{"rendered":"World Soil Day 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span><b>While we reflect on the theme for this year&#8217;s World Soil Day \u2013 \u2018Soil, Where Food Begins\u2019 \u2013 we must take into account our local context.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to acknowledge that in Seychelles this theme is slowly becoming less significant to our younger generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is mainly because the subject of food production continues to remain an obscure career choice for very few and therefore lacks the valorisation it deserves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile is it true that soil is where all our food begins, for most people today this is an obscure reality since for most of us our food production starts from the supermarket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year&#8217;s theme brings to our understanding that, for us to give food its real value, we must understand the production process that most food derives from and that is soil-based production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs politicians and other decision-makers around the world are pushing for policies that are detrimental to our production sector by encouraging a system of global food monopolization, mother nature takes the time each year to remind us that we can benefit from the service provided by Soil to produce our food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope for the coming year is that we take into account the fact that, while Soil is where our Food begins, it is also a finite resource.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we take good care of it, it will take good care of us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take this occasion to wish all farmers and allied industries of the agriculture sector an enjoyable World Soil Day 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Barry Daniel Nourice (Ph.D. Soil Science) <\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\">Seychelles<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Seychelles.
