Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The new resident representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Aissatou Diallo presented her credentials to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, on Monday December 5, 2022 at the Maison Que\u0301au de Quinssy.<\/b><\/p>\n

Minister Radegonde congratulated Mrs Diallo for being the first resident representative of the IMF. He also expressed his appreciation to the organisation for all the support it has extended to the country over the years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

On her part, Mrs Diallo remarked: \u201cI would like to acknowledge the excellent relationship between IMF and Seychelles and will endeavour to take our partnership to greater heights\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mrs Diallo went on to commend Seychelles for the financial challenges it overcame as a nation and the efforts put into the economy\u2019s stability, especially during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

She classified Seychelles as a good example in the sub-African region and stated that Seychelles is heading in the right direction, especially with the diversification of its tourism market.<\/p>\n

The IMF resident representative added that Seychelles and Rwanda will be eligible to access new special fund at concessionary rates as part of a new pilot project being introduced by the IMF. \u201cWe want to be a good partner, making very judicious use of funds provided by the IMF\u201d, commented Minister Radegonde.<\/p>\n

Other topics discussed were the challenges being faced by the tourism industry and its effect on the economy as well as training opportunities for staff at the Foreign Affairs department.<\/p>\n

Mrs Diallo is Senegalese and her appointment as IMF\u2019s resident representative is for 3 years.<\/p>\n

Also present at the meeting were principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, and the director general for Multilateral Affairs, Amenda Padayachy.<\/p>\n
