Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>A group of elderly people, less fortunate children and persons with disabilities residing in Mont Fleuri are benefitting from a donation from the International School Seychelles (ISS), as part of the school\u2019s Christmas community projects.<\/b><\/p>\n

On Friday morning, one of the students involved in the project, handed over the donation collected from ISS community, to the district administrator, Steve Noel, in a short ceremony at the school, in the presence of some students and staff.<\/p>\n

When accepting the donation, Mr Noel thanked the school for its noble gesture, which he said will go a long way in bringing smile to people\u2019s faces during this festive season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate this gesture and it comes at a good time because we know in Mont Fleuri we like to treat the less unfortunate children, our elderly and people with disabilities, so this donation will be especially for them, to bring a little joy into their lives,\u201d said Mr Noel.<\/p>\n

For her part, the school\u2019s principal, Elodie Vallantine, said one of their main school values is community which is emphasised through their motto ‘You are born not for yourself, but for the world\u2019. She said it was therefore important to teach the young people to think about the external community and not just themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had the big community Christmas project going on during the last two weeks with a number of events, including this donation in the Mont Fleuri district to make sure that they know there are less fortunate people than them and it is their responsibility to help them,\u201d said the principal.<\/p>\n

This is the second edition of the Christmas community projects, which started last year and in another activity earlier last week, the Year 6 student council members enlisted the help of external companies for sponsorship of different items which assisted in their preparation of gift hampers for the Home for the Elderly and President\u2019s Village.<\/p>\n

A group of primary and secondary students journeyed to the home for the elderly at Plaisance to perform a repertoire of Christmas Carols to the residents, which included the usual favourites, \u2019Deck the halls\u2019, \u2018Silent Night\u2019, \u2018We wish you a Merry Christmas\u2019 and \u2018Away in a manger\u2019, \u2018Snowman\u2019 and the timeless local tune \u2018Kart Nwel\u2019.<\/p>\n

After all the singing and cheering, Year 6 students presented a gift hamper to each resident as well as the three employees at the home.<\/p>\n

In another activity, the Year 6 community project group from primary and secondary students of the Duke of Edinburgh programme spent a day with the residents of the President\u2019s Village, where they shared a special lunch. It culminated with the presentation of 34 hampers for the residents and management of the village.<\/p>\n
