{"id":21049,"date":"2022-12-19T13:54:22","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T13:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/bad-weather"},"modified":"2022-12-19T14:54:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-19T14:54:27","slug":"bad-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/bad-weather","title":{"rendered":"Bad weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span><b>Following the heavy rainfall of Friday which has now subsided a little, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles remains on alert.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The National Society (NS) staff and volunteers still remain on standby.<\/p>\n<p>NDRT leaders and other volunteers (around 25) in all regions of Mahe\u0301, were called to be on standby, after the Ministry of Local Government called the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) for activation of alert at 1139hrs on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The alert was activated as a result of heavy rainfall and strong winds which had already started impacting on certain places and households on Mahe\u0301.<\/p>\n<p>The ambulance is also placed on standby along with one volunteer driver.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback received from the district administrator of the Anse Aux Pins district informed that a landslide which had been reported to HQ by a volunteer earlier, was being dealt with on district level.<\/p>\n<p>During the day of December 17, a number of volunteers were assisting with assessments for assistance. By 1800hrs, RCSS had received 4 requests for food assistance to families who have lost almost everything. Assessments were conducted and delivery organised.<\/p>\n<p>There were one request from Anes Royale, one from Anse Aux Pins and two from Cascade.<\/p>\n<p>The Seychelles Defence Forces also deployed forty (40) officers to assist the NS, and the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) and other national departments and agencies with response needs.<\/p>\n<p>The RCSS also assisted a family at Cascade with tarpaulin sheets to temporarily cover the roofing of their house which was damaged by the heavy rain and strong wind.<\/p>\n<p>Five (5) volunteers were assisting DRMD to fill gunny bags with sand for transportation to Corgate Estate in preparedness of any further potential rainfall during the night.<\/p>\n<p>The RCSS Volunteer Response Team remained on standby for any eventuality of
