Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Dr Susan Tembo, the acting resident representative (RR) for the World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Office in Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on the principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave.<\/p>\n

PS Fock Tave welcomed Dr Tembo and congratulated her on her appointment as the acting resident representative for WHO in Seychelles.<\/p>\n

On her part, Dr Tembo expressed gratitude for the cooperation between the government of Seychelles and the WHO over the past years.<\/p>\n

She also conveyed the greetings from the director general of the WHO, Dr Tedros AdhanomGhebreyesus, as well as from the director of the WHO regional office, Dr Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti.<\/p>\n

Dr Tembo thanked the government for its continued participation in the WHO governing bodies and for playing its part in the sustainable financing of the WHO. She mentioned that sustainable financing enables the organisation to continue its work swiftly.<\/p>\n

The acting resident representative congratulated the government for the tremendous work undertaken in relation to achieving universal health coverage and vaccination rate.<\/p>\n

Dr Tembo pointed out that very few countries have achieved such rate and that Seychelles is seen as an example for other countries.<\/p>\n

Other pertinent topics of discussions revolved around the pandemic, the work that the WHO has undertaken in the country over the past year, and other health priorities such as non-communicable diseases that must not be forgotten even during these challenging times.<\/p>\n

Both PS Fock Tave and Dr Tembo strongly advocated for strengthening the existing health systems.<\/p>\n

In concluding the meeting, PS Fock Tave reiterated her appreciation to Dr Tembo and the WHO for the support provided.<\/p>\n

She reassured the acting resident representative of the department\u2019s<\/p>\n

commitment and willingness to continue working with the Ministry of Health and the WHO.<\/p>\n

Also present at the meeting was director for Multilateral Affairs, Jean-Paul d\u2019Offay, and Third Secretary, Evita August.<\/p>\n
