Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>After two weeks of intensive training, sixteen members of the Seychelles police force (SPF), belonging to several units such as the scientific police or the judicial police, have received a diploma marking the end of their training by the Reunion branch of the GIGN (National Gendarmerie Intervention Group).<\/b><\/p>\n

This course included, among other things, shooting sessions or intervention techniques in specific situations (vehicle control, investigation of a home, etc.).<\/p>\n

Jean-Yves Antoine, from Glacis in Mahe\u0301, admits that sometimes “it was a bit hard” but remains excited by these fifteen days which allowed him to gain experience. \u201cWe launched a call for applications to which everyone could respond,\u201d explains Ted Barbe, the chief commissioner of the archipelago who had accompanied the small team. “Today, it seems that the demand is more and more important to participate in this training”, he slips.<\/p>\n

This is the result of a relaunched collaboration between France and the Seychelles after the years of health crisis linked to Covid. General Pierre Poty, commander of the gendarmerie of La Re\u0301union and head of the gendarmerie for the defense zone of the southern Indian Ocean, went to Mahe\u0301 to record, last October, a cooperation protocol allowing the establishment of this cooperation.<\/p>\n

The fifteen policemen and women who benefited from this course are part of the first promotion of the training center of the Reunionese gendarmerie brought to welcome others. The three women and thirteen men trained in this way should eventually join the SPF’s first intervention unit, which has around a thousand members in total.<\/p>\n

The certificate delivery ceremony took place yesterday morning at the La Redoute gendarmerie barracks in Saint-Denis, in the presence of various personalities. and under the chairmanship of Parvine Lacombe, chief of staff to the prefect of La Re\u0301union.
