Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>A three-day health professions awareness fair to showcase the different professions within the health sector is taking place at the International Conference Centre.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official opening of the fair, organised by the Ministry of Health, took place yesterday.<\/p>\n

The event saw a large crowd of professionals in the health sector in different coloured t-shirt with the writing \u2018Lasante i bokou plis ki ou vwar, ki ou krwar\u2019.<\/p>\n

In her opening remarks, Health Minister Peggy Vidot said the fair gives the public, especially the youth, the opportunity to discover the different careers in the health sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so much more than just doctors, nurses and dentists in the sector, you are here to witness the wide variety that this health sector has to offer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She added that the benefits and rewards in the sector are greater than any other sectors. \u201cLike for all professions there are the monetary benefits, but for us in the sector we get the satisfaction of knowing that some way and somehow we are helping an individual and that is greater than any monetary benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fair is showcasing stalls from National Institute of Health and Social Studies (NIHSS), neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU), the Division for Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation (DSAPTR), Seychelles Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) and the Biomedical engineering unit.<\/p>\n

Cheryl Mondon, a student who pursued a Diploma in Biomedical Laboratory sciences at NIHSS, said that the fair is a great initiative and has been an eye-opener for her who has already started her career in the sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in the medical field is not what I imagined at all, it is far much better. My heart feels warm knowing that I can have critical impact in someone\u2019s health and wellbeing,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

For his part, Dr Danny Louange, the chief executive of the Health Care Agency (HCA), said that the fair is a method to expose the public to different job opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe noticed that students as well as the general public are not really aware of what there is to do in the health sector and that is the aim of this fair,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that in the HCA there are currently 1800 staff while the whole Ministry of Health has over 2000 employees and they are working extremely well, which is noticeable by the praise and recognition they receive from the public.<\/p>\n

The presence of school children was at a minimum yesterday morning, however the crowd is expected to roll in during the remaining days of the fair.<\/p>\n
