Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Houses in the vicinity of Val d\u2019Andorre and \u2018Dan Merle\u2019 in the Baie Lazare district and down to Bougainville in the Anse Royale district will be subjected to treated water restrictions for two weeks during weekdays from 10am to 3pm.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) this is due to work being carried out by its water division to replace a section of pipes starting from the water reservoir at Upper Val d\u2019Andorre to address recurrent burst pipelines in the area.<\/p>\n

Work to replace 100 metres of the old 110mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) distribution and pumping pipes with new 100mm ductile iron (DI) pipes, started yesterday.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press on site, the general manager for the water division at PUC, Ibrahima Diallo, said the company had noted constant bursting of pipelines in Val d\u2019Andorre, especially on the distribution lines, and this was reported on four occasions last week.<\/p>\n

He added the same was also reported in the lower part of the area and the affected pipes have been replaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cLately we have noticed that these were more frequent in the upper area, especially on the distribution line, and we have decided to replace those pipes, which are old. We have to interrupt the water supply for five hours daily from Monday to Friday to be able to do the work and this will be for a two-week period,\u201d said Mr Diallo, adding water will be restored as from 3pm.<\/p>\n

He noted the DI pipes being used as replacement are stronger and able to withstand water pressure. However, PUC will be monitoring the situation to see if further pipe replacement will be needed.<\/p>\n

Treated water to the Val d\u2019Andorre reservoir for distribution is pumped from the water treatment plant at Anse Boileau.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile PUC has advised the public that all other water restrictions in place on parts of Mahe\u0301, Praslin and La Digue, are still in force.<\/p>\n
