Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>A group of 25 youths interested in comic strip and the production of podcasts has followed an introductory workshop organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC).<\/b><\/p>\n

The half-day session at the council\u2019s headquarters at Orion Mall on Saturday was under the guidance of renowned local cartoonist, Peter Lalande and other SNYC staff.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, Albert Duncan, SNYC\u2019s chief executive, said the workshop was in line with their strategy to create youth-led groups, \u2018For the Youth, By The Youth\u2019, in areas where young people have shown their interest.<\/p>\n

He said SNYC wants to empower the youth through expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough animation and podcasting, we aim to provide a platform for the youths to express their unique voices, ideas, and experiences. The project seeks to empower them by encouraging them to tell their stories and address important social and cultural issues,\u201d explained Mr Duncan.<\/p>\n

According to SNYC, it will also enhance digital literacy, improving the participants\u2019 skills, enabling them to navigate digital tools and platforms with confidence as they inspire and empower other youths.<\/p>\n

The introductory session focused on the training of trainers and it targeted a group of students from the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe needed a group of young people with a certain level of competency in drawing and we chose the SIAD students as they have that already and Mr Lalande gave them specific tips about cartoon drawing.\u201d<\/p>\n

CEO Duncan said all those present had given their commitment to use their comic strips to spread positive messages about issues impacting young people in the country.<\/p>\n

SNYC will be publishing the youths\u2019 comic strips in the daily local newspaper, Seychelles NATION.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, later on, we will open this workshop to other youngsters fascinated by cartoons and who would like to draw, create their characters and animations to contribute their stories, to be shared nationwide,\u201d stated Mr Duncan.<\/p>\n

SNYC also plans to conduct similar sessions for other art forms including literature, and poetry, and a more extensive one on podcast, among others.<\/p>\n
