Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Following a spate of car break-ins in the town and central regions, the Seychelles police have issued a warning to vehicle owners to refrain from leaving valuables and other possessions in their parked vehicles.<\/b><\/p>\n

From the end of the month of July up until yesterday, the police have recorded 17 cases of break-ins which have occurred in Bel Air, Union Vale and Bel Eau areas, and at car parks including that of Barrel Nightclub, the Amusement Centre, and Freedom Square.<\/p>\n

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Antoine Desnousse, noted yesterday that such thefts are on the rise, and urged that vehicle owners remain vigilant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are advising members of the public not to leave valuables in their parked vehicles. Some people leave their purses, laptops and mobile phones. These are opportunist crimes, whereby someone spots these items and finds a way to break into the vehicle to commit the theft,\u201d Mr Desnousse stated.<\/p>\n

The police have stepped up patrols and launched an investigation in a bid to apprehend those responsible. So far, nobody has been arrested.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the police are also concerned with the recent increase in attacks on individuals. A few weeks ago, a lady was attacked on the Fitness Trail, Roche Caiman, after 6pm. Certain arrests have been made in relation to this incident, and in relation to incidents whereby persons were being attacked in the vicinity of Plaisance school.<\/p>\n

Mr Desnousse also called on anyone with information to either contact him or inform the police.<\/p>\n

As for beggars who harass people, a common sight around the town and surrounding areas, the police will be stepping up its presence and taking firm action against them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to stop them. The law permits us to do so as they are loitering, and we will need to file court cases against them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey cannot harrass people. We cannot have people who are going about their business being harassed and threatened when they refuse to give in to the beggars,\u201d Mr Desnousse concluded.<\/p>\n
