Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Fifteen fishermen including five youth from the Seychelles Maritime Academy graduated last week after following a four-day training in marketing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The training which falls under the \u2018Peser an Mouvman\u2019 project was financed by the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust (SeyCCAT) and supported by the Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA).<\/p>\n

\u2018Peser an Mouvman\u2019 is an initiative of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) with the aim of developing the skills of Mahe\u0301-based fishermen through capacity building on how to conduct research, write projects, manage fiscal accounts and practice good governance, accountability and transparency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the south-east monsoon, many fishermen do not have lots to do and Ceps seized the opportunity to have a programme with them with a specific theme. Fishing is one of the major pillars of the industry and as civil society we have the duty to empower our citizens in all fields. And we are happy to have more and more women joining the industry,\u201d noted Alvin Laurence, Ceps\u2019 chief executive.<\/p>\n

The project coordinator, Albert Duncan, shared that \u201cthis marketing training with the fishermen and the youth was interesting and we hope it will be useful and better assist them to sustain and market their products locally.\u201d<\/p>\n

June Mothe\u0301e thanked Ceps and SeyCCAT for the training and noted that the fishing community was looking forward to more sessions in the future.<\/p>\n

She also invited the youth of Seychelles to come forward and join the industry as the economy revolves around it.<\/p>\n

Ellna Basset, a student from SMA, also shared that the youth from the academy enjoyed participating in the course and was looking forward to more training.<\/p>\n
