Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Victoria, like any urban centre, faces challenges related to cleanliness and waste management. Over recent years, concerted efforts have been made by various organisations to rejuvenate and cleanse the streets of Victoria.<\/b><\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Mayor\u2019s Office collaborated with the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA), Wastea and numerous private business owners to execute a similar clean-up endeavor.<\/p>\n

The clean-up kick-started at 9.15am, commencing at the Market Street car park. This was followed by a thorough pressure wash of the market area. Subsequently, the clean-up extended to Benezet Street and Church Street, targeting areas that had accumulated dirt and debris over time.<\/p>\n

The acting mayor, Lydia Charlie, emphasised that \u201cFor a city like Victoria, where tourism is a major economic driver, maintaining a clean and attractive environment is crucial. The selected areas are filthy and we want to keep Victoria clean. We have been encouraging the owners of buildings to participate in the exercise. This activity has been done in the past and we feel that there is a need to do it again. We need to keep Victoria clean and try to eradicate rats as well. Cleaning the streets of Victoria is a collaborative effort involving government agencies, local businesses, and community volunteers. We also call upon all those who use these streets daily, to be aware and use the proper waste disposals and not to litter.\u201d<\/p>\n

As has been the case in the past, this clean-up activity received favourable recognition from passersby, significantly contributing to heightened awareness regarding the imperative nature of preserving the cleanliness of Victoria.<\/p>\n
