Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>With the absence of local basketball action for almost a year, the Mont Fleuri district, through its member of the National Assembly, Michel Roucou, who is himself a great sports enthusiast, hosted a 3×3 tournament on Sunday at the district\u2019s court.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that in 2023, the only local competition that was organised was the Curtain-raiser tournament won by Beau Vallon Heat.<\/p>\n

Other than bringing back basketball action, the tournament, which was coordinated by member of the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Tracey Moustache, was to educate the community on the importance of sports activities and their benefits.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, only three teams \u2013 Ballerz, Underdogs, and Boom Boom \u2013 turned up for the tournament.<\/p>\n

Ballerz with Alf Aglae\u0301, Kenny Okafor and Khris Bouchereau were the winners, finishing ahead of Boom Boom, comprising Sebastien Thomas, Marshall Didon, Tainio Ah-Kong and Samuel Cecile.<\/p>\n

Underdogs, made up of Luciano Roseline, Abdulmalik Majah, Justin Dodin and Gael Joubert finished third overall.<\/p>\n

On the programme was also a 3-point shooting competition won by Ah-Kong, with Joubert finishing second.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sports NATION, MNA Roucou said they were planning to launch a series of activities for the Mont Fleuri district last December but with the recent tragedies, they had to postpone all activities.<\/p>\n

He added that resuming their calendar in 2024, they have agreed to launch their campaign with the 3×3 basketball tournament and a shooting competition.<\/p>\n

MNA Roucou also noted that the prime aim of such activities is to attract more youths into sport and in a friendly atmosphere while showing their talents in a competitive environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be also focusing on other sports disciplines such as football, athletics and we will also initiate activities in school. This will benefit the students, and is also in line with the government\u2019s campaign against obesity,\u201d said MNA Roucou.<\/p>\n
