Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission chairperson Gabrielle Louise McIntyre has announced that in the next week or so, the commission will begin to serve perpetrators notifications in order to finalise decisions.<\/p>\n

She made the statement during the live session of the commission\u2019s 266th hearing yesterday afternoon. Any person receiving a perpetrator notification, may petition for amnesty within 14 days of receipt of the notification so that the perpetrator officer can help with that process as required.<\/p>\n

She added that at the same time, the commission is working with relevant victims to prepare them for any potential amnesty procedure.<\/p>\n

Mrs McIntyre also announced that the commission has completed all of its regular planned sessions but in addition is running some sessions when necessary to collect additional evidence for the record and to assist in some complaints that have not been well processed by the commission.<\/p>\n

She noted that people whose complaints have not been well processed do understand that with limited resources, it was not possible for the commission to work in a professional manner as it would have wished.<\/p>\n

She extended the commission\u2019s apology to those complainants whose complaints have not been well processed and noted that the commission will rectify the issues surrounding their complaints as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

She said that while the commission is not attending to cases, but is working hard to determine all of its cases.<\/p>\n

She stated that out of 370 cases, 39 have been completed while 17 cases are under deliberations with a further 50 cases in the drafting process.<\/p>\n

In addition, the commission is also drafting its final report and finalising its reparation policy with the assistance of a reparation focus group.<\/p>\n

Mrs McIntyre further said that the commission continues to aim to complete its work by August 9, 2022, and will have to continuously adapt its work practices as that date looms.<\/p>\n

She noted it may mean that the commission will deliver less than it hopes to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cNonetheless, it will continue to do its very best,\u201d Mrs McIntyre concluded.<\/p>\n
