Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Nissa Joseph is the recipient of this year\u2019s CBS postgraduate scholarship under its Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Programme.<\/p>\n

Ms Joseph received her award certificate from the First Deputy Governor, Christophe Edmond, in a short ceremony held at the CBS Building in Victoria.<\/p>\n

Ms Joseph is currently employed as a Senior Corporate Planning and Research Officer at the Seychelles Revenue Commission and holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Management.<\/p>\n

She is set to pursue her postgraduate studies online later this year, where she will be specialising in Taxation.<\/p>\n

On accepting her award certificate, Ms Joseph said she is honoured and grateful to have been awarded the scholarship, which she described as a great opportunity to enhance her skillset and contribute towards the development and growth of the financial sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am aware of the trust that has been placed in me by the selection committee and pledge that I will be fully committed towards my studies and ensure that I achieve the best possible outcome,\u201d said Ms Joseph.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s scholarship offer opened on September 23, 2021, closing end-January 2022. Two scholarships were on offer; one for Undergraduate studies in the areas of Economics, Accounting, Finance, Law or Banking, and the other for a Master\u2019s degree whereby a candidate can specialise in the field of Financial Technology, Cybersecurity, Financial Journalism, Financial Law, Taxation and Customs Management, Public Finance Management or Anti-Money Laundering & Compliance.<\/p>\n

A total of 13 applications \u2013 2 for a first degree and 11 for a postgraduate qualification \u2013 were received. Ms Joseph has been selected out of a pool of 9 eligible applicants \u2013 all in the postgraduate category, following the selection process, which comprised an interview stage and evaluation against set criteria. There were no eligible candidates for the undergraduate category.<\/p>\n

In presenting the award, Mr Edmond wished Ms Joseph success in her studies and assured her of the Central Bank\u2019s support as she embarks on this journey.<\/p>\n

He noted that CBS is encouraged to see the increase in the number of capable individuals aspiring to seize available opportunities to broaden their knowledge and skills through further academic studies, as well as the zeal and determination of the previous awardees who are performing exceptionally well as they pursue their chosen programmes.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond further added that CBS remains committed to identifying priority fields and support the development of competence that will contribute to the development of the financial services industry.<\/p>\n

For her part, the chairperson of the Scholarship Committee \u2013 Second Deputy Governor, Jenifer Sullivan, acknowledged all the applicants, with diverse interests who went through the selection process.<\/p>\n

Ms Sullivan is also encouraging other organisations to consider offering such learning opportunities to close the skills gap in the financial sector, given the thirst for knowledge that was witnessed first-hand among the professionals already working in this sector who applied for the scholarship.<\/p>\n

CBS launched the Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship in February 2018. The first two scholarships were awarded in 2019. The postgraduate recipient completed her studies in 2020, while the undergraduate recipient is undertaking her final year. The two awardees for the 2020 edition took up their studies in September last year.<\/p>\n
