Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Christophe Edmond has resigned from the post of First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS).<\/b><\/p>\n

His letter of resignation was presented to President Wavel Ramkalawan, in accordance with Section 7 (5) (a) of the CBS Act, 2004, during a meeting held yesterday afternoon at State House.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond was accompanied at the meeting by CBS Governor Caroline Abel.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond first joined CBS as an Assistant Accountant in the Banking Services Division and following completion of a Master\u2019s Degree in Accounting and Finance in 2006, has risen through the ranks until his appointment to the post of First Deputy Governor in March 2012.<\/p>\n

Governor Abel has expressed her appreciation to Mr Edmond for his contribution to the Seychelles economy in his capacity as a Central Bank employee, spanning over two decades.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond\u2019s decision to step down from his position at CBS comes after his positive consideration of an offer from the Seychelles International Mercantile Banking Corporation (SIMBC, trading as Nouvobanq) to take up the role of chief executive of Nouvobanq, to succeed the current post holder, Ahmad Saeed, who will retire effective June 30, 2022 (see separate article above).<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond will be undergoing the due process to be appointed as an administrator for the bank, which is done by the CBS as the regulator of the banking system.<\/p>\n

In accepting his resignation, the President thanked Mr Edmond for his service during his time at CBS and assured him of the support of the government for the leadership post at Nouvobanq.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond expressed his appreciation for the support of the President and the Governor, stating his intention to leverage his central banking experience to bring Nouvobanq forward.<\/p>\n

Mr Edmond\u2019s resignation from the services of CBS is with immediate effect as of April 1, 2022, and he has entered a \u2018cooling-off\u2019 period of three months to ensure there is no conflict of interest between the role he has exited and the new functions he is anticipated to assume at Nouvobanq, pending the regulatory approval.<\/p>\n

The procedures for the appointment of a new First Deputy Governor by the President is currently being undertaken and the new post holder will be announced in due course. In the interim, the divisions under the portfolio of the First Deputy Governor\u2019s office are being assumed by the Governor.<\/p>\n
