Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The Seychelles Autism Association in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, will be hosting a fun run on Saturday April 9.<\/b><\/p>\n

The month of April is dedicated as the Autism Awareness month with April 2 celebrated as World Austism Day annually.<\/p>\n

The theme for World Autism Day for this year is \u2018Inclusion in education\u2019.<\/p>\n

Helena Sims, a board member of the Seychelles Autism Association, said that annually the association used to host a fun run to raise the awareness of the public on this developmental disability. However due to the pandemic, the association has not hosted the event for the past two years.<\/p>\n

Ms Sims said that they have re-launched the fun run this year and it will be different from how they used to do it as this year the run will be held at the fitness trail compared to the previous years which was at the Stad Popiler.<\/p>\n

Ms Sims said that the activity does not require a registration fee and is inviting the public in general to join in the run to raise awareness on autism.<\/p>\n

She added that the public can also donate or make a contribution on the day as the association will be posting a donation box at the Olympic House.<\/p>\n

The run will start at three in the afternoon at the Olympic House next to the Stad Linite and will go for two rounds, approximately five kilometres.<\/p>\n

The Seychelles Autism Association is also encouraging participants to wear the colour \u2018blue\u2019 to show their support towards autism.<\/p>\n

Following the theme for this year the Centre for Autism which will open sometime in April this year, will be a centre for children with autism as well as any other special needs children.<\/p>\n

Ms Sims said the association welcomes all the help the public can contribute to and if not can participate in the fun run.<\/p>\n

The board member noted that Covid has been challenging for a variety of reasons and for many people. However she added that it has been particularly hard on the children with autism as their routines have been disrupted and it is especially important for the people with low spectrum to have a set routine. This she noted has been a challenge for the parents and thus is encouraging them also to participate in the activity.<\/p>\n

Other than the fun run the association also hosts galas, fund raising activities and workshop training for people that work with children with autism.<\/p>\n

The Seychelles Autism Association hopes to re launch most of its activities this year.<\/p>\n
