Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The English River secondary school organised several activities to commemorate this year\u2019s World Health Day, which is celebrated on April 7 every year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The department of science took up the activity as a two-day programme in its annual calendar and organised several activities like poster making and poem competitions for students under the theme \u2018Our health \u2013 Our responsibility\u2019.<\/p>\n

Several other activities were also organised to promote healthy living and examine the physical health of the school\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n

This year the Indian high commission joined hands with the English River secondary school by sponsoring attractive prizes for the winners of the competition organised by the science department.<\/p>\n

The prize giving ceremony was held last week at the school in the presence of Vikram Grewal, the second secretary at the Indian high commission, Amarapalli Rao and the staff of the science department.<\/p>\n

There were around 25 entries for the competition and the prize winners were Ellie Adrien (S1), Jaden Bacco (S1), Faith Malvina (S3), Nelcea Thomas (S3), Marvin Marie (S3).<\/p>\n

On Friday April 8, Lorna Payet, a health worker from the English River health centre gave a speech on the topic of \u2018Hygiene\u2019 to the students and enlightened them with tips for a healthy and hygienic lifestyle. As usual welfare activity staff of Dr Murthy\u2019s Clinic camped at the English River school to screen the school staff for diabetes, hypertension, BMI and an eye check-up, everything free of cost.<\/p>\n

Most of the staff participated in the screening and were very happy about this initiative.<\/p>\n

On the same day S3 students received their vaccination for tetanus and polio by the health workers from the English River health centre.<\/p>\n

Head of the department of science, Paul Omondi, thanked the school management, the Indian high commission, the staff of Ministry of Health, Dr Murthy\u2019s Clinic and the staffsof the science department for the usual support and also stated that the department of science would like to work in collaboration with everyone in the future.<\/p>\n

He also thanked Deepak Radhakrishnan, science teacher for coordinating this activity.<\/p>\n

The day ended successfully and English River school wishes everyone a Happy World Health Day.<\/p>\n
