Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Airtel Seychelles partners with the \u2018Adaptation to climate change\u2019 project<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of activities to commemorate this year\u2019s World Earth Day which was Friday April 22, local telecommunication provider Airtel Seychelles renewed its commitment and demonstrated support for environmental protection through funding partnership with the national Eco school programme.<\/p>\n

The partnership is in line with this year\u2019s Earth Day theme which is \u2018Invest in our Planet\u2019 with the focus on encouraging individuals, businesses and world leaders to invest and switch to greener technologies and practices.<\/p>\n

Through the cooperation with the Eco school programme, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE) and the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) unit, Airtel Seychelles has already sponsored equipment for water harvesting in three schools on Mahe, namely La Mis\u00e8re, Port Glaud and the School for the Exceptional Child at a cost of over R60,000.<\/p>\n

It was during a small ceremony on Friday afternoon at the School for the Exceptional Child, in the presence of the principal secretary for environment Denis Matatiken, the school\u2019s head teacher Heidi Francourt that Airtel Seychelles\u2019 representative Marie-Pierre Volc\u00e8re confirmed the company\u2019s commitment towards the cause, pledging to carry on with the project in all the schools on Mahe, Praslin and La Diguebefore handing over garden tools which will also go towards the project.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the government, PS Matatiken thanked Airtel for its gesture, commitmentand commended the company for choosing to join the campaign to educate people to come together and help find solutions to problems plaguing our planet.<\/p>\n

World Earth Day is a reminder for mankind to protect and safeguard Mother Earth and its species, to make the earth a better place for the coming generations.<\/p>\n

First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org, including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.<\/p>\n
