Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Dr Zulfikar Mamujee, the Lions Club International District Governor 411A for Kenya, Ethiopia and Seychelles, yesterday afternoon paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House.<\/b><\/p>\n

The doctor from Kenya, accompanied by his wife Fatima Mamujee, also from Lions Club International District Governor 411A, is in the country to meet with members of the four clubs\u2012 Lions Club of Seychelles, Melvin Jones Lions Club of Seychelles, Rising Lions Club of Seychelles and Seychelles Centennial Women Lions Club \u2012 to see the kind of activities they are doing and to motivate them.<\/p>\n

Meeting with the local press after his talks with President Ramkalawan, Dr Mamujee said he had a fruitful and encouragingdiscussion with the Seychellois head of Stateduring which they explored the possibility of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between theSeychelles government andLions Club International Lions Eye Hospital based in Nairobi, Kenya for eye care treatment. TheLions Eye Hospital, the largest eye hospital in Kenya, also has a diabetic care centre, ear nose and throat (ENT) and dental facilities as well as a lens manufacturing and repairing unit.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when we have a joint partnership where we will be able to assist one another, it would be mutually beneficial to all of us. Also with the encouragement of the President, if we have more members it would mean more hands to serve the community to alleviate the sufferings and we would be able to touch more lives with hope. This is what we discussed with the President,\u201d said Dr Mamujee, who also noted that the drafting of the agreement will soon be done by the Lions and the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

DrMamujee and his wife were accompanied to State House by representatives of the four Lions clubs \u2012 Abdul Azad president of Lions Clubs of Seychelles, Siddhanth Mathur president of Melvin Jones Lions Club of Seychelles, Manjari Gohelpresident of Seychelles Centennial Women Lions Club and Maryssa Samedi president of Rising Lions Club of Seychelles. Also present was Dr Sasikumar, chairperson of Region E.<\/p>\n

The Lions Club International is a service club organisation with over 50,000 clubs in750 districts in 220 countries and 4.4 million members. The district 411A has 65 clubs and 1,700 members.The Lions clubs\u2019main focus areas is on vision, hunger, diabetes, environment and pediatric cancer.<\/p>\n

On Friday last week, Lions clubs assisted by Dr Mamujee donated home items to the oncology unit at the Seychelles Hospital and thefollowing day, Saturday, they ran a free eye screening clinic and provided free glasses to residentsof the Au Cap home for the elderly.<\/p>\n
