Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>City Ladies and Beau Vallon are the winners of the women\u2019s and men\u2019s Curtain-raiser tournament for the year 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n

The tournament was played over three days \u2012 Friday, Saturday and Sunday \u2012 and all matches were contested on a best-of-three series.<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s final, City Ladies, with players like Angelique Adeline and Hilary Nourrice, edged record league champions Arsu 2-1 (25-22, 15-25, 18-16) to run away with the title.<\/p>\n

In the semifinal, City Ladies, formerly Friends, met Mont Fleuri and had to come from a set down to beat Mont Fleuri 2-1 (11-25, 25-21, 15-6) while Arsu had no trouble dispatching Neo Girls 2-0 (25-5, 25-9) in the other last-four match.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s final was disputed by Beau Vallon and Neo Boys and it proved to be a very close encounter but in the end Beau Vallon were victorious on a tight 2-0 (30-28, 25-23) score.<\/p>\n

In the semifinal, champions Beau Vallon eliminated Anse Royale Brothers 2-0 (25-14, 25-20) and Neo Boys overcame the challenge of Airwaves 2-0 (25-8, 25-15).<\/p>\n

The Curtain-raiser was the first competition organised by the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) since the first half of 2020 when all sports activities were grounded as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The next competition on the calendar is the Land Marine Cup followed by the SVF Cup.<\/p>\n

The league is expected to start in either September or October and end next year, bringing the SVF in line with other leagues on the continent and in Europe, thus easing the issue of international transfer in the future.<\/p>\n
