Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Four new representatives of United Nations agencies, namely the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the International Labour Organisation, and the United Nations Population Fund presented their credentials to Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Sylvestre Radegonde at the foreign affairs department headquarters, Maison Qu\u00e9au de Quinssy, on Tuesday morning.<\/b><\/p>\n

The United Nations (UN) representatives are Hubert Gijzen, regional director and representative for United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (Unesco); Charles Mbuli Boliko, country representative for Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO); Dr Coffi Agossou, country director for International Labour Organisation (ILO); and Koffi Kouame, country director for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).<\/p>\n

They are all present in Seychelles to take part in the annual UN Country Team Retreat, which gathers all heads of UN agencies. They were accompanied by Christine Umutoni, UN resident coordinator for Seychelles and Mauritius.<\/p>\n

Minister Radegonde congratulated the representatives on their accreditation and, on behalf of the government, he thanked the UN agencies for the support they have provided to Seychelles over the years.<\/p>\n

Minister Radegonde affirmed Seychelles\u2019 commitment and mentioned that \u201cas a proud member of your agencies, Seychelles remains focused and committed to engaging on different issues that are instrumental and crucial for our development.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UN representatives commended Seychelles for its resilience and management of the Covid-19 pandemic. They updated the minister on the various areas of cooperation between Seychelles and their respective agencies, as well as upcoming projects and expected outcomes. A strong cooperation, which Minister Radegonde further noted as having the potential to \u201cbroaden”.<\/p>\n

Also present during the accreditation ceremony were Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, principal secretary for foreign affairs; Amenda Padayachy, director-general for multilateral affairs; and other senior officials of the foreign affairs department.<\/p>\n
