Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>Winners St Michel, La Passe ready for SFF Premier League Championship<\/b><\/p>\n

Mah\u00e9 Premier League winnersSt Michel were presented with their cup on Saturday after losing their last match to Foresters, while on La Digue, La Passe hosted LightStars and earned a 3-2 win to snatch the Inner Islands Premier League title from the jaws of C\u00f4te d\u2019Or.<\/p>\n

St Michel had celebrated winning the Mah\u00e9 Premier League group on the night of Thursday May 12 when closest challengers Foresters lost 0-2 to Real Maldives. And on Saturday at Stad Linite, they met the same Foresters team who beat their second string team 4-1.<\/p>\n

Minutes after registering their second loss of the tournament, St Michel were presented with the cup by youth and sports principal secretary Ralph Jean-Louis and Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) president Elvis Chetty.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the victory only helped to consolidate Foresters\u2019 second place on the eight-team table with 31 points \u2012 three less than St Michel\u2019s tally of 34.<\/p>\n

St Michel picked up the most wins \u2012 11 \u2012 out of 14 games, drew one and lost two for a points tally of 34 after the two-round league, while Foresters finished with nine wins, four draws and one defeat.<\/p>\n

St Louis finished third and took the last qualifying position in the Mah\u00e9 Premier League with 24 points after collecting seven wins, three draws and four defeats.<\/p>\n

By finishing among the top three, St Michel, Foresters and St Louis have earned qualification to play in the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) SFF Premier League Championship and they will be joined by La Passe, C\u00f4te d\u2019Or and LightStars who claimed the top three positions in the Inner Islands Premier League.<\/p>\n

After Praslin side C\u00f4te d\u2019Or let slip a golden opportunity to win the Inner Islands Premier League by losing 1-2 to La Digue-based Anse Reunion last Tuesday, La Passe welcomed another Praslin team \u2012 LightStars \u2012 to La Digue on Saturday and they made no mistake getting a 3-2 win to help them leapfrog C\u00f4te d\u2019Or on to 36 points after three rounds of matches played in the six-team league.<\/p>\n

La Passe collected 11 wins, three draws and a loss in 15 games, while C\u00f4te d\u2019Or finished with 35 points after 11 victories, two draws and two defeats. Third-placed LightStars amassed 27 points from eight wins, three draws and four losses.<\/p>\n

Anse Reunion finished fourth with 20 points, Revengers fifth with 10 points and Santos sixth with 1 point. These three will fight among themselves over two rounds of matches for a best finish possible.<\/p>\n

No teams from the Inner islands Premier League will be relegated.<\/p>\n

It is to note that Baie Ste Anne-based second subsidiary league side Santos were granted dispensation to join the Inner islands Premier League.<\/p>\n

Back to the Mah\u00e9 Premier League, the remaining five positions were taken by Red Star Defence Forces (fourth on 17 points), St John Bosco (fifth with 16 points), Real Maldives (sixth on 16 points), Northern Dynamo (seventh on 15 points) and Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers (eighth on 2 points).<\/p>\n

As the Mah\u00e9 Premier League is an open league, the remaining five teams shall continue playing each other over one round to accumulate points to earn the highest finish possible. The team who finish last will be relegated to the Championship League, while the one who take seventh position will meet the Championship runners-up in a two-legged playoff.<\/p>\n

All six teams competing in the round-robin SFF Premier League Championship have been given bonus points based on their ranking in the first phase. First-placed St Michel and La Passe have been given three points apiece, runners-up C\u00f4te d\u2019Or and Foresters two points each, while St Louis and LightStars have received one point each.<\/p>\n

The first sets of matches of the round-robin SFF Premier League Championship will be played starting this coming Friday when Foresters will meet LightStars at Stad Linite.<\/p>\n
