Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>As part of yesterday\u2019s commemoration of World Accreditation Day, the Seychelles Bureau of Standards (SBS) organised a half-day workshop to promote accreditation.
\n<\/b>
\nThe workshop was attended by the chief executive of SBS, Andy Ally; a representative of Seychelles Breweries Ltd, Vicky Dine; members of the SBS board; representatives of the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) and representatives from both government and private laboratories.<\/p>\n

The SBS decided to organise this event as it is the National Accreditation Focal Point (NAFP) for Seychelles and the country representative of the Southern African Development Community Representative Cooperation in Accreditation (Sadca).<\/p>\n

The purpose and aim of the workshop was to highlight the benefits and value of accreditation, the process of achieving accreditation and share success stories related to accreditation.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s World Accreditation Day is \u2018Accreditation: Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment\u2019.<\/p>\n

In his remarks to officially launch the workshop, Mr Ally said \u201cThis year\u2019s theme highlights how accreditation supports nine out of the seventeen UN (United Nations) sustainable development goals (SDG). Seychelles, as a small island state, a lot of emphasis is being made by the government towards the attainment of these SDGs.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also shared that, as a UN member state, Seychelles has adopted these sustainable development goals as part of the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Mr Ally also mentioned that it is SBS\u2019 role, as the NAFP of Seychelles, to promote accreditation in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaboratories across the world which carry out tests \u2013 be it medical laboratories or laboratories that do tests for other products, laboratories for inspections and those that do certification, are all accredited to support the achievement of these sustainable development goals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further added that in an attempt to reduce the impact of economic activities on the environment, most countries have shifted from a linear to a circular economy, in which accreditation plays a significant role.<\/p>\n

The workshop began with a video presentation by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). The video gave an in-depth explanation on accreditation and its involvement in the contribution of achieving the nine SDGs.<\/p>\n

The video was followed by different presentations related to accreditation which went on for the rest of the half-day workshop.<\/p>\n
