\u201cThe United Seychelles Party joins with all Seychellois to celebrate 46 years of our Independence. Today is the day we pay respect to our beloved nation. We have contributed so much to build our very own culture and heritage, so let us celebrate wholeheartedly.<\/p>\n

\u201cJune 29, 1976 is an incontestable date in our history. On that day, we stood united together, as a nation, to chart our own destiny. It symbolises the crowning of a great struggle and reminds us of the great paragons, which were the foundation of the dream for a sovereign Seychelles, envisioned and realised by our forefathers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince 1964, our forefathers fought hard to gain independence from British rule. We lived in a society where there was great disparity between those who had much wealth and those who were poor. Today, the United Seychelles salutes the unwavering courage and sacrifices of former President France Albert Rene, the founder of the Seychelles People\u2019s United Party, for his relentless fight for independence of Seychelles. We also pay homage to our first President, Sir James Mancham, for his contributions to nation building.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we are also reminded that our forefathers have done their share of responsibilities and now it lies in our hands how we shape and carve out the future of our country. Seychelles has made tremendous progress throughout the 46 years of its independence and it has positioned itself as a true leader in sustainable development among the small island States, and the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should all take pride in our country\u2019s heritage. Let us learn of and teach our children the history of our struggles, particularly our missteps as a society, as a means to build collective will to further improve our nation which will inspire them to serve their country. We should all honour the past, celebrate the present and embrace the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world is moving into a new world order and it is necessary for Seychelles to remain firm as a sovereign country. It is now, more than ever, that we need to remain steadfast and not be dragged into political plays that can threaten our progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to be Seychellois! And true to the spirit of our national anthem \u2018Koste Seselwa\u2019, let us stand for national unity, patriotism, solidarity, fraternity, love and respect for our fellow Seychellois.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnited we stand, divided we fall. Our Independence Day is a reminder that we are all Seychellois first.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo tomorrow, let us all celebrate!<\/p>\n
