Africa-Press – Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Health, yesterday evening organised a manifestation of entertainment under the theme \u2018Take care of each other\u2019 at the International Conference Centre to pay tribute to health workers.<\/b>
\nPoems, songs and dance performances by different local artists, art groups and health workers themselves featured on the 75-minute long programme attended by President Wavel Ramkalawan, First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Speaker of the National Assembly Roger Mancienne, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Sebastien Pillay, ministers, members of the National Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps, health workers and other distinguished guests.<\/p>\n

The activity coincided with the National Day events.<\/p>\n

Paying tribute to the health workers through words of encouragement on his and the people of Seychelles\u2019 behalf, President Ramkalawan commended them, in spite of the challenges and criticisms, for the work they have been doing for the people of this country through their patience, understanding, love and care.<\/p>\n

Faced with the challenge of Covid-19, President Ramkalawan noted that it is because of our health workers that today all the beds in all Covid-19 centres are empty. President Ramkalawan said these beds are empty because of the devotion, love, patience and knowledge displayed by health workers and he also thanked them for taking very good care of newborns and consoling families who have lost a loved one.<\/p>\n

In her response to the tribute, Minister for Health, Peggy Vidot, said although the talents of the health workers are being appreciated it must not be forgotten that yesterday, today and tomorrow it has been and will be their ethics and vocation that will direct the course of their lives and their careers in health.<\/p>\n

On behalf of all health workers, she thanked President Ramkalawan and the people of Seychelles for their tribute to the health workers and she called on all health workers to continue to work for the good health of the people.<\/p>\n

During the event, Gerard Govinden had the honour to light a candle in memory of all health workers who lost their lives in the battle against Covid-19. His younger brother, Gerry Govinden was the first health worker to die at 3.30am on Monday April 12, 2021. A nurse with vast experience in acute psychiatric care dealing with patients with mental health and addiction, Gerry Govinden was 42 years old.<\/p>\n

Among the performances on the night were a dance routine by the Elite dance group featuring Raspyek on the beat of the song \u2018Solider Seselwa\u2019, poems and songs titled \u2018Gard sa dife alimen\u2019 from students of the National Institute of Health and Social Studies (NIHSS), Ministry of Health choir with \u2018Mon en Travayer Lasante\u2019, Joe Samy with a new composition entitled \u2018Through Sunshine and Rain\u2019, Jean-Marc Volcy with \u2018Mersi\u2019, dance by Heartbeat Studio, Mahe Chamber of Choir with \u2018Rann Glwar\u2019, and Dr Danny Louange with an instrumental solo of the song \u2018Wind beneath my wings\u2019 on the saxophone.<\/p>\n

Reverend Christine Benoit said a prayer and offered blessing to the health workers and guests who were asked to write tribute messages to the health workers.<\/p>\n

Some of the messages were screened as the different performances went on. All the messages will be up for viewing at the ongoing health exhibition at the Carrefour Des Arts.<\/p>\n

The tribute ceremony ended with a photo shoot with the some of the distinguished guests, the performers and organisers.<\/p>\n
