{"id":9626,"date":"2022-07-02T17:10:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-02T17:10:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/football-la-passe-sff-premier-league-championship-winners"},"modified":"2022-07-02T18:16:37","modified_gmt":"2022-07-02T18:16:37","slug":"football-la-passe-sff-premier-league-championship-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/seychelles\/all-news\/football-la-passe-sff-premier-league-championship-winners","title":{"rendered":"Football &#8211; La Passe SFF Premier League Championship winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Seychelles. <\/strong><\/span><b>After winning the Inner Islands title, La Passe are the winners of the Seychelles Football Federation Premier League Championship following an easy 3-0 win against Foresters without having to break a sweat.<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\nScheduled to meet Foresters yesterday afternoon in their backyard at the L\u2019Union playing field, La Passe players dressed up only for the photo session as their Mahe-based opponents did not make it to La Digue.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the match by walkover, La Passe brought their points tally to 15 after four victories in five matches, scoring 10 goals and conceding 6.<\/p>\n<p>Following their 2-1 victory against LightStars last night, St Michel finished as runners-up with 13 points after 3 wins, a draw and a loss.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021-2022 league season kicked off on November 23, 2021 following the cancellation of the 2020-2021 season in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Since the SFF did not get the green light from the health authorities to begin the new season 2021-2022 in August to end in May 2022 as planned, the SFF Premier League Championship was a short one.<\/p>\n<p>The SFF had expected to complete the SFF league in May in time to resume the 2022-2023 league season in August 2022, but it was completed yesterday. As a result, the SFF had to sacrifice two knockout competitions \u2012 Airtel Cup and SFF Cup \u2012 last year.<\/p>\n<p>The SFF league competitions included the men\u2019s Premier League divided into two \u2012 Mah\u00e9 Premier League for teams on Mah\u00e9, and Inner Islands Premier League for teams from Praslin and La Digue.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s Premier league was designed in that manner to minimise the cost of travel by teams in this time of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The Mah\u00e9 Premier League was played on a round robin basis (home and away) while the Inner Islands Premier League was played over three legs.<\/p>\n<p>The three top finishers from the two leagues \u2012 St Michel (first), Foresters (second) and St Louis (third) in the Mahe league, La Passe (first), C\u00f4te d\u2019Or (second) and LightStars )third) in the Inner Islands league \u2012 clashed with each other in the one legged SFF Premier League Championship.<\/p>\n<p>All six teams who competed in the round-robin SFF Premier League Championship were given bonus points based on their ranking in the first phase. First-placed St Michel and La Passe were given three points apiece, runners-up C\u00f4te d\u2019Or and Foresters two points each, while St Louis and LightStars received one point each.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining five positions in the Mahe Premier League were taken by Red Star Defence Forces (fourth on 17 points), St John Bosco (fifth with 16 points), Real Maldives (sixth on 16 points), Northern Dynamo (seventh on 15 points) and Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers (eighth on 2 points).<\/p>\n<p>As the Mah\u00e9 Premier League is an open league, the remaining five teams continue playing each other over one round to accumulate points to earn the highest finish possible. The team who finish last will be relegated to the Championship League, while the one who take seventh position will meet the Championship runners-up in a two-legged playoff.<\/p>\n<p>In the Inner Islands Premier League, Anse Reunion finished fourth with 20 points, Revengers fifth with 10 points and Santos sixth with 1 point in the Inner Islands Premier League and they have been fighting among themselves over two rounds of matches for a best finish possible.<\/p>\n<p>No teams from the Inner islands Premier League will be relegated. It is to note that Baie Ste Anne-based second subsidiary league side Santos were granted dispensation to join the Inner islands Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Bel Air Football Club are the champions of the Championship League with appoints tally of 36 from 13 games played (12 wins and 1 loss) to secure a Premier League return.<\/p>\n<p>Bel Air Football Club last played in the country\u2019s first division in 1996 \u2012 three years after the reintroduction of club sports in Seychelles in 1993. After finishing a place before last in the first division, Bel Air met second division runners-up Ascot on Tuesday December 3, 1996 and lost the play-off match 1-4.
